Hi!
I have a problem; after updating Premiere CS4 ver. 4.0.1. to version 4.1 files in projects are offline. There are some files (for example, CG animation in other formats as quick time) that are on timeline normally, but all XDcame EX footage is offline. That usually happened with external disks changing letter names, but the letter for disk is the same.
What to do? The problem is that I have about 1.000 clips and they're all structured in subfolders, that means that each file is in its own folder due to xdcam EX file structure and it's quite impossible to link each of them manually (or it will take 2 days only clicking on every file).
Agrhhh... once again dealing with Adobe's ''improvements''.
One more thing; when trying to link file, i get ''The importer reported a generic error''!?
And I've just found out that there's no xdcam ex presets anymore in Premiere. How to get them back?
Thanks,
Ziga
After updating Premiere to 4.1 - XDCAM...Yep, same problem. Here are some suggestions, I haven't tried uninstalling yet.

After updating Premiere to 4.1 - XDCAM...The disk drive letter problem is a well known cause ot these issues with external drives. I don't think it is specific to XDCAM material, at least I have not had that problem with 4.1.
What you may try is before starting your project, to set the drive letter in disk management to the letter previously used in your project and then open the project. Maybe that will allow the project to start normally, maybe you need to point the project to the first offline clip and it may find the other files automatically. This is of course complicated by the many subdirectories your have, but try it. Maybe you are in luck. If that still does not work, I have no other suggestion than to go through the tedious task of selecting the correct files each and every time.
However, the other problems you mentioned seem to point to a faulty installation. Reinstalling may solve all your problems and will not destroy your project.
Hi!
Well, after 4 hours of problem-solving I figured out that the main issue was that 4.1 didn't support xdcam-ex anymore. Furthermore, when reinstalling premiere back to 4.0.1 it couldn't open a project (looks like 4.1 did something to it I guess), so final solution now was to open an auto-save project, which has just opened.
Probably there is an issue with production premium to be first installed as a trial. The solution might be to uninstall all the programs and clean the registry and install it back directly with serial number. But it takes time and I have to finish project today.
I'm really confused about Adobe's solutions in last few years; every new file/software/update they provide solves 1 old problem and gives 10 new problems.
Now it's a big mess but luckily the project is now open at least. I really do not recommend anyone to update to 4.1 because of huge problems you might have with files, at least not to do it during the work on a project.

Ziga
In the links RJ gave you, I mentioned that a previous trial installation messes things up apparently, like you discovered.

So can I, but then I never used the trial version. This seems to be the distinguishing aspect.
Are you all using a Mac or PC?
PC.
