I am currently working on Mac Pro 2x2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. System Version ist 10.5.7.
Except the well known bugs including fonts, guides and PDF-writing everything works out fine.
Yesterday i installed Leopard Beta Build 10A354 including Rosetta. Freehand Icon starts to bounce but program doesn't start up. When trying to shut down I learned, that Freehand process was running and preventing restart. Had to kill it manually.
I want to mark up, that Freehand behavoir changed since Build 261, where it generated revolving error messages for about one minute. Does anyone know, if that will change untill Snow Leopard release?
Is Freehand MX11.02 10.6 Snow Leopard...This sounds suspiciously like a problem in need of a HotFix. You try it and see if helps in this case.

Is Freehand MX11.02 10.6 Snow Leopard...So you gave me hope for at least 2 minutes. Thanks a lot for the answer, but the hotfix didn't work out. But it changed the behaviour. Now the application quits 2 secs after clicking the icon.
That's scaring!!! I hope you will find a solution.
After trying Judy's Hotfix I did some additional research. Some information elsewhere stated, that disabling 3rd-Party preference panes could help. I tried this as well without success. Also booted in single user mode without effect. Hmmmmm...
Have you tried using Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions?
All Clear. I finally got it to work.
I performed a fresh install of Freehand. Then I appied Judy's hotfix. Application still hung at startup. Then I booted into safe mode (hold Shift while startup). Suddenly Freehand started like a charm. After rebooting in normal mode Freehand kept working. Please don't ask me why.
After short test I could only fin one sever issue: After printing into postscript file spinning ball of death appears an Freehand is unresponsive and has to be force quit.
Hope that is due to Snow Leo Beta. Filed an errror report to apple. Forgot to mention that the ps files are OK and can be processed properly by Distiller.
That's all folks. Could be much worse.
Thanks for your contribution. You are now a real FreeHand beta tester Keep us inform about your test.
Great News!
I hope the crash after printing the PS File won't be in the newest Developer Version and of course not in the final version.
Are there news about this?
I really hope that freehand will run on 10.6....... If it won't we have a BIG problem........
Ricardo, we owe you a debt of gratitude for beta-testing FH on the new OS. Thank you.
Conflicts can arise in unexpected places. There was a conflict between Acrobat 7 and QuickTime 7.1, causing the computer to hang. I mention this only as a possible area to investigate.

Judy Arndt
Thanks for all your interest and support especially to Judy.
At the moment I'm digging through Freehand Forum to find out about the printing issue. I haven't found any substantial infos so far ;-((
The spindump thing will ONLY happen if you choose printing to .ps file (independent which printer you have chosen) which is bad luck but leaves at least some hope. Updating to Acrobat 9.1.1 and Distiller 9.1.0 had no positive effect.
I also tried using different PPD's such as old linotronic stuff, but so far no success. With the linotronic PPD instead of Adobe PDF 3118.101 driver it is possible to use PDF print option ''save as Adobe PDF'' but that results in low resolution PDF. Maybe a ''special'' PPD could do the trick and then use save to Adobe PDF rather to .ps file and avoid hanging.
At this moment I'm at end with my knowledge. Judy pointed out, that there was an incompatibility which caused severe printing problems under Quicktime 7. So lets consider the Beta Status of Snow Leopard and most of its components and say a little prayer.....
One of the desirable features about printing to a .ps file using a selected PPD is that the file is formatted for the chosen printer. Special paper sizes, halftone info, etc. is included in the file.
When you printed from FH, had you selected the target printer in the FH file's Page Setup?
Yes I have chosen the printers in page setup as well. No effect. Would be quite interesting what Freehand tries to do after writing the .ps file. That's when spindump arises. It's about 1 sec after finishing the .ps file.
Which Version of SnowLeopard du you have?
Has anybody infos if apple will do changes in this case of PS printing
till the release?
FREEHAND must run on SnowLeopard!
Everything else would be so sad.......
Any Ideas from other guys?
I think we should info about this thread in a lot other forums, news
etc......
There are a lot Freehand Fans around the world - i think a lot of
people will help us!
Installed build is A354. I will install lastest (A380) today and give it a try. By the way: I tried to find a workaround with Jaws PDF Creator - but nothing worked out. I don't wanna waste lots of precious time with the old build.
I keep you guys updated
When you force quit FH after writing to a .ps file, is a crash log generated?
Using the Console application, you can read crash logs. Sometimes the last few lines in the log offer a clue about what went wrong.
I found this interesting discussion on disabling Spindump.
http://jamesreubenknowles.com/disable-spindump-71
It would be interesting to know if FH still hangs with Spindump disabled.
If my elderly Mac would run Snow Leopard, I'd test this myself.
Hi all Freehand Users out there. Good news. Build 380 did it. Printing is back to work normally. Everything works fine. And the new Leopard is pretty fast. Acrobat starts up in 2 secs. Even Illustratotr, which used to take endless time to boot, needs only 10 secs.
So everybody sitting on high end hardware gets the performance we deserve and we payed for. Snow leopard rules and so does Freehand.
Champagne for RicardO
Hurrah! Thanks a bunch for testing, Ricardo!
GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FREEHAND WILL RUN ON 10.6!
A GREAT DAY!!!!!
THANKS!
BAD NEWS!!!
FREEHAND DOESN'T RUN!
Ricardo - i don't know why it works on your mac - but it's not regular.
I can't believe it. Perhaps something in your system is ''wrong''??!?!?
What i did:
I did a fresh install of SnowLeo 380 - the newest build.
Then i installed Freehand 11.0.2
Then i did the FIX in the link above.
Nothing hapens.... Freehand bounces - then it crashed.
O.K. - booting in ''Shift-Mode''.
Same result.
I tested really everything. Single-User-Mode - normal mode - again single user mode - new install.... and so on, and so on.....
Then i tried another Freehand - the newest from the adobe download page (before it was from my MX 2004 CD).
Same thing.....
And thats not only my experiance.
2 friends also tested it today on their MacPros..... SAME REULT AS MINE!!!!
Has anyone an idea???
If Freehand won't run on 10.6 we all will have a big Problem in the Future......
Any Tips?

NO CRASH REPORT
HI ktmedien.
That's bad news indeed. So IMHO it has something to do with the fresh install of OS X.
So you can't have no 3-rd party plugins or system enhancments installed.
Silly question: Did you choose to install rosetta in OS X installation setup dialog (custom install)? It's NOT the default setting!!!
Yes of course we klicked the rosetta option.
How you did the osx install?
You did no clean install?
Which 3rd Party plugins do you mean???
Freehand is so important.... I hope there is a solution......
Have you tried installing Freehand 10?
No.......
Apart from i think freehand 10 won't run when even 11.0.2 won't,
freehand 10 is so buggy and uncool.....
we should concentrate on 11.0.2!
At least try it and see if it works.
Freehand 10 won't run if Freehand 11.0.2 won't run at least.....
But even if it will run - what will be?
Do you want to work with freehand 10??!?!?!?!?
We should concentrate on expedient ideas to run 11.0.2 on 10.6!
It's too important for a lot of us......
Hi ktmedien,
I cloned my Leopard working-partition and performed an upgrade installation. Therefor all my stuff (Flip4mac, Application enhancer from unsanity, fontcard, codecs, all applications and so on were present since first startup.)
I discovered that the insanity apps prevented Freehand to start. But since you performed a clean install that's definitely not the problem, you are concerned with.
My Freehand setup file is dated 16.03.2004. It's called FreehandMX-Installation and is 37,1 MB large and has Version Number 7.4. This installs Freehand MX 11.0. After that I apply updater fhmx_1102_updater with 7,2 MB. All are german versions.
Don't be worried about fancy icon from Freehand. This doesn't prevent working. Which permission do you have. Mine %26gt; look screenshot.
Seems that Finder info didn't upload to forum. Once again.
Hi everybody,
I couldn't leave you without you beloved Freehand under Snow Leopard. Here's how stuff works.
I don't know exactly why my first attempt succeded with all that ******* around. I think it's due to system enhancements I have installed unter Leopard, which prvented Freehand from starting.
Now the easy way:
Install fresh Leopard (mine was 10.5.2)
Install Freehand MX 11.02. Run it and serialize it.
Comboupdate to 10.5.7.
Install Snow Leopard. Start Freehand. Enjoy.
To ktmedien or anybody out there. Please verify my method and post asap.
Here's a replacement icon for Freehand so it matches the rest of CS4. Enjoy!
cw
Haha - at last Freehand becomes part of Creative Suite.
Fits very nicely in the dock. THX a lot man.
RICARDOO INFORMATION IS TRUE!!!!!
IT RUNS ON SNOW LEOPARD!!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you all for the information, it is very useful.
It is so nice to see that I'm not the only admirer of this GREAT software, but it really makes me angry that it is not being developed any further.
We should start a mass movement to have Adobe change their mind and honor the future of Freehand.
Best Regards,
Gunnar

Copy your registration file from any working installation and you should be fine:
/Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Freehand MXa Registration
I guess the registration dialog crashes under 10.6, it looked quite weird in 10.5 already if I remember correctly...

THIS PROBLEM IS NOT SOLVED!
I have tried every method listed here to get Freehand working under 10.6, and I've had no success. I've tried it on two different systems, too; the most recent model iMacs, and most recent model MacBooks.
This has been nothing less than a nightmare, as my licenses are unaccessible once I update to 10.6. My only recourse is to reinstall 10.5 to try and reclaim them.
Does anyone have any other suggestions/hints?!
C
I agree, this post is not answered.?I too have tried the solutions above with no success.?Something's not making sense.
FREEHAND WILL WORK ON SNOW LEOPARD!!!!!!!!
My english is not so good and i currently have no time to translate
ist - but here is the solution in german:
Freehand in 10.5 Leopard wie gehabt installieren und einmal starten um
die Seriennummer einzugeben.
Jetzt Start von SnowLeopard DVD und 鐪塨er das 10.5 System installieren.
Dann Freehand starten.
Sollte es gleich gehen passt alles - ansonsten einmal im Single User
Mode booten und Freehand starten. Danach geht es auch normal ohne den
Single User Mode.
Aber Achtung - der erste Start von Freehand kann durchaus 1-2 Minuten
dauern.
So - jetzt l鐩瞮ft alles soweit
Was aber wenn man Freehand auf ein Cleanes 10.6 haben will ohne vorher
den Umweg 鐪塨er 10.5 zu gehen?
hd/library/appl.support/macromedia/FreeHand MXa Registration
Wenn man diese Datei einmal von einem lauff鐩瞙igen 10.6 Freehand hat
gibts keine Probleme mehr.
Also - Snow Leopard ganz frisch auf eine neue Platte installieren.
Dann ganz normal Freehand installieren.
Nach der Installation eben diese ''FreeHand MXa Registration'' an den
o.g. Ort legen!
FREEHAND STARTEN - FETTIG!!!!!!
GENIAL
Kein Single User Mode, kein Update von 10.5!
Einfach genial!
Google Translation -- Not Perfect...
FreeHand 10.5 Leopard, how to install and had to start again
enter the serial number.
Now start SnowLeopard DVD and on the 10.5 system installed.
Then restart FreeHand.
Should it go at everything fits - otherwise, once a single user
Fashion load and launch FreeHand. Thereafter, it is also normal without the
Single User Mode.
But beware - the first launch of FreeHand can thoroughly 1-2 minutes
last.
So - now everything is running so far
But what if you want to have FreeHand on a clean 10.6 without prior
to go via 10.5?
Quite simply - it is solely attributable to the registry file!
The Regisitrierungsprozess not function with SnowLeopard.
You will, however fortunately only needed 1x create the file --
then you can run FreeHand for the future more directly on
one fresh install 10.6.
You have to FH with the above-mentioned way at once to run 10.6
bring. Then, this file is updated.
I.e. it secures the Registry file forever.
It lies in
hd / library / appl.support / macromedia / Freehand MXa Registration
If you have this file once a runnable 10.6 FreeHand
gibts no more problems.
So - Snow Leopard fresh install on a new disk.
Then install as normal Freehand.
After installation, these same ''FreeHand MXa Registration'' in the
o.g. Place basket!
FREEHAND LAUNCH - Oily !!!!!!
GENIAL
No single user mode, no update from 10.5!
Simply brilliant!
Tried moving the Registration file from a working computer running 10.5 and that didn't work either.
read again please.........
this can't work....
You must do it like i wrote..... The Freehand will do Fine with SNOW
LEOPARD
I did.?I installed Snow Leopard, then I installed Freehand right from the DVD from 2004.?Nothing happens.?The Google translation above is seriously bad so it's possible I'm missing something but so far I am unsuccessful.
I am German, so I have no trouble with the text.
But for me also:
It doesn't work on 2 MacPro, 1 MacBook Pro
I talked to some friends of mine - also Freehand users.
It it definitely seems to have something to do with the Macrovision supplied registration process.
The friends which have ''older'' serial numbers which are VOLUME serials or education ones can work on freehand without any problems doing this what is postet here.
All serial nubers which require an activation after typing in seem not to work.
It is a problem with the serial:
FHD110-... does not work.
WPD700-... works !!!
The first is a single, the second a volumenumber...
I can confirm this. My single user serial number absolutely does not work, but a friend with a volume license has had no problem at all. The application simply doesn't attempt to reactivate the serial number when the registration file contains a volume license, and so the app does not crash on startup.
I have a serial number for Studio MX, which starts with WPD700. It will not work.
